IGFA Labuan 2010

The IGFA Labuan International Game Fishing Competition can be considered one of the most prestigious fishing events in the region. Here’s what Horace Tan from SC Pro Team has to share about his most exciting fishing experience to date…

This competition was certainly very memorable. Being relatively new to deep offshore fishing, I found it very interesting to adapt and modify my rigs and setups after some experience sharing from the seniors, i.e. Ricky, Yong.

Apart from the onslaught of Escolar army night after night, there were many hilarious incidents of accidental catches, exciting double YFT hook-ups and even a 2 hour tussle with a 120lbs Whiptail Shark (released, of course). I also managed to land my first ever YFT on the trip. All these while, the team members of SC Pro gamely supported each other.

Luring at Royal Belum

Ricky and JC from the SC Pro Team were recently featured in April 2011′s edition of Rod & Line, for the trip that we made to Royal Belum, Perak, Malaysia in November last year.

During that trip, the ATC Big Bad Bass rod was featured, alongside the lures from Zerek Innovation and lines from SureCatch. Some of the prized catch included a 4.5kg Toman. By the end of one day, Ricky and JC had reeled in a total of 8 Hampala macrolepidota (Sebarau, native like to call them 水马骝 which carry the meaning of “water monkey”, they shy away easily with the lightest hint of human present but their explosive take of lure and fighting spirit was amazing) and 13 Giant Snake Head, (Channa micropeltes) the largest in the family Channidae, capable of growing to over 1 meter in length (3.3 feet) and a weight of over 20 kilograms (44 pounds).

Here are some of the photos taken during the trip:
